Privacy Policy

Achilles Corporation (hereafter the "Company") places the highest priority on maintaining the trust of its customers and recognizes handling information related to individual customers accurately and strictly to be an important responsibility. The Company has thus established the following privacy policy and will strive to ensure that the entire company handles customer information accordingly.

* This policy applies to the Company and its subsidiaries and affiliates in Japan.

As prescribed by the Personal Information Protection Law and other laws and regulations as well as the guidelines of the Personal Information Protection Commission and other guidelines (hereafter the "Related Laws and Regulations"), the Company will strive to properly handle personal information, personal data, etc. as defined in the Related Laws and Regulations.

3. Purposes and scope of use of personal information

The Company will use the personal information it obtains for the following purposes, and it will not use such information beyond said scope without the consent of the individuals concerned.

  • To deliver products
  • To manage customers’ personal information
  • To respond to inquiries, consultations, and feedback
  • To use statistics to improve website usability
  • To send catalogs, documents, and informational magazines

    All personal data (addresses, names, postal codes, phone numbers, fax numbers, email addresses, etc.) retained by the Company, unless otherwise requested by the individual concerned
  • (2) Scope of parties who jointly use the personal data
    Achilles Corporation and its domestic subsidiaries
  • (3) Purposes of joint use of personal data
    The same as described under item 3 above.
  • (4) Name of the person responsible for managing personal data subject to joint use
    The Company is responsible for managing the personal data to be shared. For the Company's address and representative, please refer to item 1 above.

5. Sharing of personal information with third parties

  • (1) In cases to which any of the following apply, the Company may provide the personal data it retains to third parties such as business partners (excluding international third parties).

    • (i)When the Company has obtained prior consent from the individual concerned
    • (ii)When the information has been anonymized
    • (iii)When providing personal data to contractors of the Company (including sub-contractors) in connection with outsourcing all or part of the handling of personal data, within the scope necessary to achieve the “purposes of use of personal information” described above
    • (iv)When personal data is provided in relation to succession of business operations for a merger or other reasons
    • (v)For joint use based on item 4 above
    • (vi)When required by laws and regulations
    • (vii)When sharing personal information is necessary to protect individuals’ lives, bodies, or property and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the relevant individuals
    • (viii)When sharing personal information is particularly necessary for improving public health or promoting the sound growth of children and it is difficult to obtain the consent of the relevant individuals
    • (ix)When it is necessary to cooperate with a government agency, local government, or an individual or entity entrusted by either a government agency or local government to execute affairs prescribed by law, and obtaining the consent of the relevant individual is likely to impede the execution of such affairs
  • (2) The Company may provide the personal data it retains to third parties located abroad in cases to which any of the following apply.

    • (i)When the individual concerned has given prior consent to providing the individual's personal information to third parties located abroad. In such cases, the recipients are limited to international subsidiaries of Achilles Corporation.
    • (ii)When personal data is provided to a third party located abroad that has implemented measures equivalent to those prescribed by the Personal Information Protection Law in an appropriate and reasonable manner in relation to the handling of personal data and has confirmed the implementation of such measures with the Company. In such cases, the recipients will be limited to Achilles Corporation's contractors located abroad (such contractors include subcontractors, sub-subcontractors, etc. located abroad).
    • (iii)When the information has been anonymized

6. Collection of access data

  • (1) In order to improve our website services and make them more user friendly, we collect access data and information about website users which we share with our domestic subsidiaries and social media, ad serving, and data analysis partners. These partners may integrate the information collected here with other information provided by website users as well as other information collected when website users use their services.
    We use cookies, Web beacons, and other technologies to collect information. This access data does not include information that directly identifies specific individuals, such as addresses or names.

  • (2) The Company properly handles and uses collected access data for the following purposes.

    • (i)To register and confirm member services
    • (ii)To improve the usability of the content search service
    • (iii)To display recommended article headlines in line with user needs
    • (iv)To perform access analysis (traffic surveys) to improve usability
    • (v)For questionnaires and sweepstakes application forms for advertising activities
    • (vi)To grasp the status of advertisement distribution
    • (vii)To distribute behavior-targeted advertisements through ad-serving companies such as Google (*) and Yahoo
    • (viii)To measure the effectiveness of advertisements

    The information may be used in combination with some of the personal information provided by users when they apply for services, etc.; attribute information (information that cannot directly identify a specific individual by itself, such as residential area, gender, occupation, etc.); and/or personal data provided by entities other than our domestic subsidiaries (information that cannot directly identify a specific individual by itself). In such cases, the Company will obtain prior consent from the individual concerned and use the information within the scope of the purposes of use described above.

  • (3) Our website has button-type links to social media platforms. Some social media platforms may automatically receive information such as user IDs, accessed websites, etc. from websites with button-type links to them, etc., when users visit websites with such links, etc. even if the users do not click the links.

7. Outsourcing of the handling of personal information

The Company may outsource the handling of the personal information it retains to contractors with whom it has concluded a contract on protection of personal information. In such cases, the Company will exercise necessary and appropriate supervision over employees and contractors (including subcontractors, etc.) that handle personal information. The Company will not outsource handling of personal information except for purposes within the extent necessary to achieve the purposes of use that have been clearly indicated to the individual concerned.

8. Safety control measures

With regard to the handling of the personal information the Company retains, the Company and its domestic subsidiaries have implemented the following safety control measures.

  • (1) Formulation of a privacy policy
    In order to ensure that personal data is properly handled, the Company has formulated this set of guidelines (Privacy Policy) regarding compliance with related laws, regulations, and guidelines as well as contact for questions and complaints, etc.
  • (2) Establishment of rules for handling personal data
    The Company has established personal information management rules for each stage, such as acquisition, use, storage, provision, and deletion/disposal, etc., including with regard to handling methods, responsible persons/persons in charge, and their duties.
  • (3) Organizational safety control measures
    The Company has appointed administrative personnel to be responsible for handling personal data, clarified which employees handle personal data as well as the scope of personal data handled by such employees, and established a system for reporting to the administrative personnel responsible for handling personal data in the event that a violation of the Personal Information Protection Law or personal information management rules or any sign of such a violation is detected.
    The Company conducts periodic self-inspections of the status of personal data handling as well as is subjected to audits by other departments and external parties.
  • (4) Human safety control measures
    The Company provides regular training to its employees on considerations related to the handling of personal data.
    The Company stipulates matters related to the confidentiality of personal information in Achilles' Code of Conduct and Basic Rules for Information Security.
  • (5) Physical safety control measures
    In areas where personal data is handled, the Company controls employee access to rooms and restricts equipment and other items that employees may bring in to such areas, and has implemented measures to prevent unauthorized persons from viewing personal data.
    We take measures to prevent theft and loss of equipment, electronic media, and documents that contain personal data as well as to prevent personal data from being easily discovered when such equipment, electronic media, etc. are moved, including within our offices.
  • (6) Technical safety control measures
    The Company implements access control to limit the scope of persons in charge and the personal information databases, etc. that they handle.
    We have put in place mechanisms to protect information systems that handle personal data from unauthorized external access and unauthorized software.
  • (7) Understanding of the external environment

    • (i)When personal information is stored abroad, the Company implements safety control measures based on an understanding of the system applied to protect personal information in the country where the information is stored.
    • (ii)When we outsource storage of personal information to the following cloud service providers, we implement safety control measures based on an understanding of the country where the server is located as well as the system applied to protect personal information in that country.

9. Obtaining of personal information from children

We ask that personal information from children only be provided with the consent of the child's parent or guardian.
